The protein encoded by this gene catalyzes the formation of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate and diacylglycerol from phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate. This reaction uses calcium as a cofactor and plays an important role in the intracellular transduction of many extracellular signals. This gene is activated by two G-protein alpha subunits, alpha-q and alpha-11. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
FUNCTION:SwissProt: Q9NQ66 # The production of the second messenger molecules diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) is mediated by activated phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C enzymes. COFACTOR:Calcium. SIZE:1216 amino acids; 138567 Da SIMILARITY:SwissProt: Q9NQ66 ## Contains 1 C2 domain. & Contains 1 PI-PLC X-box domain. & Contains 1 PI-PLC Y-box domain. MISCELLANEOUS:The receptor-mediated activation of PLC-beta-1 is mediated by two G-protein alpha subunits, alpha-Q and alpha-11.
