Long Name: Liver Receptor Homolog 1/Nuclear Receptor Subfamily 5, Group A, Member 2
Aliases: B1F2; FTZ-F1 beta; NR5A2
Entrez Gene IDs: 2494 (Human)
Background: LRH-1
Liver receptor homolog-1 (LRH-1, FTF, CPF, hB1F, FTZ-F1b; NR5A2) is a member of the orphan nuclear receptor family. LRH-1 is a mammalian homolog of the Drosophila fushi tarazu Factor 1 gene product. LRH-1 is thought to be critical for development because LRH-1 knockout mice are not viable. LRH-1 is expressed in the liver, intestine, pancrease, ovary and preadipocytes.
LRH-1 is involved in the regulation of genes which participate in steroid, bile acid and cholesterol homeostasis. A role for LRH-1 in steroidogenesis is supported by its expression in ovarian granulosa cells and corpus luteum. LRH-1 has been shown to regulate transcription of several steroidogenic genes and is known to modulate the expression of aromatase in breast adipose tissue.
