Mouse cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1) is a 21.3kD cytokine which is expressed in heart and several other mouse tissues. It was originally identified by its ability to induce cardiac myocyte heterotrophy in vitro.
Cardiotrophin-1 acts as a hepatocyte stimulating factor and induces hepatic expression of acute phase proteins. It also acts to inhibit the differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells.
