Bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP-9), otherwise known as growth differentiation factor-2 (GDF-2), plays a role in the response of embryonic basal forebrain cholinergic neurons (BFCN) to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and hence in memory and learning processes. BMP-9 is predominantly expressed in liver nonparenchymal cells, and has several biological properties, including induction of orthotopic bone formation, glucose homeostasis, iron homeostasis, and in the inhibition of angiogenesis.
Target Species
Human
Product Form
Purified recombinant protein - lyophilised
Preparation
Purified recombinant BMP-9 expressed in CHO cells
Preservative Stabilisers
None present
Molecular Weight
24.1kD (110 amino acid residue homodimer)
Reconstitution
Reconstitute with 0.1ml distilled water
Care should be taken during reconstitution as the protein may appear as a film at the bottom of the vial. AbD Serotec recommend that the vial is gently mixed after reconstitution. For extended storage, the addition of 0.1% bovine serum albumin (BSA) is recommended.
Purity
>95% by SDS PAGE and HPLC analysis
Activity
Determined by its ability to induce alkaline phosphatase production by ATDC-5 cells. The expected ED50 for this effect is 0.5-1.9 ng/ml.
