Oncostatin M is a growth regulating cytokine that has variable effects dependent upon the target cell. Oncostatin M has inhibitory effects upon the proliferation of A375 melanoma cells and other malignant cells, but stimulates normal fibroblasts and AIDS related Kaposi sarcoma cells.
