CD79a is part of the B cell receptor complex, and is expressed by all B lymphocytes.
CD5 is a 67kD glycoprotein expressed by all mature T cells and by a subset of mature B cells. CD5 has been shown to act as a ligand for the B cell marker CD72. CD5 positive B cells have been implicated in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune disorders and are the normal counterpart of the malignant cells in B cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
This combination of antibodies is useful for simultaneously enumerating CD5 and CD79a positive cells. It may find particular application in the study of CD5 positive B lymphocytes and in the study of chronic lymphoproliferative diseases. The CD79a specific antibody in this combination has been reported to be useful in distinguishing B-CLL from mantle cell lymphoma, seeBell, P.B.et al.for details.
