Description: The human BAFF Instant ELISA is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative detection of human BAFF in cell culture supernatants, human serum, plasma, or other body fluids. The human BAFF Instant ELISA is for research use only. Not for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
BAFF is a member of the TNF family, whose members induce pleiotropic biological responses including cell growth, differentiation and cell death. BAFF is expressed by T cells and dendritic cells.
BAFF was shown to mediate survival of peripheral immature B lymphocytes. Together with another member of the TNF superfamily, APRIL, BAFF is involved in the resistance to apoptosis of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, B-CLL, through an autocrine pathway. BAFF turned out to be a key regulator of B-cell homeostasis.
Increased levels of BAFF in human sera were also found in primary bilary cirrhosis, autoimmune diabetes, rheumatic diseases, and Sjogren's syndrome.
