Detailed Description
Formaldehyde-Free RNA Gel Kit offers a safer alternative to formaldehyde-containing agarose gels for denaturing electrophoresis of RNA. The kit provides a non-volatile substitute for formaldehyde as well as a non-mutagenic RNA stain, which eliminates the need for ethidium bromide staining.
The non-volatile denaturing agent included in the Formaldehyde-Free RNA Gel Kit effectively eliminates RNA secondary structure to ensure optimal resolution during electrophoresis. Gel pouring and running procedures can be safely performed on the bench top in the absence of a fume hood. Extended incubations and buffer recirculation during electrophoresis are unnecessary since glyoxal, another common RNA denaturant, is not a component of the kit.
The 2X Formaldehyde-Free RNA Gel Loading Buffer reduces the number of steps required for sample preparation and post-run band visualization. A non-mutagenic, fluorescent dye, included in the loading buffer, stains RNA during the denaturation step and comigrates with it during electrophoresis. Bright green bands can be visualized by standard UV transillumination immediately after electrophoresis without further processing. The 2X loading buffer may also eliminate the need to concentrate samples by precipitation since a larger sample volume can be applied to the gel.
Kit includes:
• Formaldehyde-Free RNA Gel Running Buffer, 10X (2 x 500 ml)
• Formaldehyde-Free RNA Gel Solution, 10X (150 ml)
• Formaldehyde-Free RNA Gel Loading Buffer, 2X (3 x 2 ml)
*Kit contains sufficient material for 15 gels.
