AHP997 recognises an epitope within the internal region of Modulator of apoptosis 1 (MAP-1), a ubiquitously expressed protein containing a BH3-like domain. Over-expression of MAP-1 induces caspase-dependent apoptosis in mammalian cells, and MAP-1 is known to associate as homodimers with members of the Bcl-2 family, Bax, Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL.
