AHP903 is specific for rat Myristoylated alanine-rich protein kinase C substrate (MARCKS), when phosphorylated at serine 152 and 156.
MARCKS, a member of the calmodulin binding protein family thought to be involved in mitogenesis, phagocytosis and membrane trafficking, is localised to the plasma membrane forming cross-links with actin filaments. Phosphorylation by protein kinase C at key serine residues results in inhibition of binding to actin, phosphatidyl serine and calmodulin.

For the detection of phosphoproteins, serine phosphatase inhibitors such as 10mM Sodium Fluoride should be added to the sample buffer. Milk or other casein-based blocking solutions are not recommended as casein is a phosphoprotein and its use can result in high background.
Where this antibody has not been tested for use in a particular technique this does not necessarily exclude its use in such procedures. Suggested working dilutions are given as a guide only. It is recommended that the user titrates the antibody for use in their own system using appropriate negative/positive controls.

Antisera to phosphorylated MARCKS were raised by repeated immunisations of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG prepared by affinity chromatography.
