AHP853B is specific for equine tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha).
TNF alpha is produced by a range of cells, including macrophages and monocytes and is an important mediator of the equine inflammatory response.
AHP853B recognises both native and recombinant equine TNF alpha. No detectable cross-reactivity was observed with bovine, porcine, mouse or rat TNF alpha.

Antisera to equine TNF alpha were raised by repeated immunisation of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG was prepared by affinity chromatography on protein G.
