AHP2133 specifically recognises an epitope within the N-terminal (NT) region of human ERC1 (ELKS/Rab6-interacting/CAST family member 1), otherwise known as ELKS, a widely expressed member of the RIM-binding protein family, which can be recruited on Golgi membranes by RAB6A, and may be involved in Rab-6 regulated endosomes to Golgi transport.
ERC1 is as an essential regulatory subunit of the IkappaB kinase (IKK) complex, a key enzyme in activation of nuclear factor kappaB (NF-kappaB). ERC1 is highly expressed in the brain, testis and thyroid, and is implicated in the formation of the cytomatrix at the active zone (CAZ), believed to define the site of calcium-dependent exocytosis of neurotransmitters.
