AHP2048 detects caveolin-1, a 21kDa scaffolding protein which is the main component of caveolae; endocytic vesicles found in almost all cell types. Caveolin-1 has a number of functions, with important roles in lipid transport, membrane traffic and signal transduction.
Caveolin-1 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of oncogenic cell transformation, tumorigenesis, and metastasis and functions as a tumour and/or metastasis-modifying gene.
