AHP2036 specifically recognises an epitope within the C-terminal (CT) region of human VDAC2 (voltage-dependent anion-selective channel protein 2), a mammalian mitochondrial outer-membrane protein, and member of the eukaryotic mitochondrial porin family, which allows for the passage/diffusion of small hydrophilic molecules.
VDAC2 interacts with hexokinases, and has been shown to interact specifically with the inactive conformer of the proapoptotic protein BAK, thereby providing a link between mitochondrial physiology and the core apoptotic pathway.
