AHP1910 recognises Tramadol, a centrally acting analgesic used to treat moderate to severe pain. It appears to act on the opioid receptor as well as the noradrenergic and serotenergic systems.
Tramadol is usually marketed as the hydrochloride salt and occasionally as the tartrate. It is available in injectable and oral preparations. Tramadol is associated with the development of a physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms.
