AHP1787 recognises Interferon regulatory factor 8, (IRF8) also known as Interferon consensus sequence-binding protein (ICSBP). It is part of a transcriptional network that governs B cell lineage specification, commitment and differentiation. It is expressed in T cells, B cells and macrophages. Macrophage, dendritic and B cell development is impaired in IRF deficient mice. IRF8 appears to play a negative regulatory role in IFN induction of genes in most cases.

Antiserum to IRF8 was raised by repeated immunisation of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG was prepared from whole serum by immunoaffinity chromatography.
