AHP1786T recognises Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK), also known as Agammaglobulinaemia tyrosine kinase. BTK was initially identified as playing a key role in the primary immunodeficiency disease X-linked agammaglobulinaemia (XLA). XLA is characterised by defects in the maturation pathways of B cells, with virtually no mature circulating B cells. Patients suffer from lack of immunoglobulins of all classes and resulting recurrent infection. BTK is crucial for B cell maturation and transiently phosphorylates General transcription factor II-I (BTK-associated protein 135) in response to B cell receptor stimulation. BTK also interacts with members of the Toll-like receptor family and proteins involved in the TLR4 signal transductions such as MyD88, TIRAP and IRAK.
