AHP1434 recognises human TBC1 domain family member 1 (TBC1D1), a 133 kDa nuclear protein. TBC1D1 is expressed in a range of tissues with expression being highest in the kidney, testis and in haematopoietic cells. TBC1D1 plays a role in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. It also regulates insulin mediated GLUT4 translocation through its GAP activity and is a likely Akt substrate.
Specific mutations in the TBC1D1 gene have been reported in certain forms of severe human obesity.
