AHP1273 detects calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMK II), a serine/threonine kinase that is activated by calcium ions (Ca2+) and the Ca2+/calmodulin complex (CaM). CaMK II is expressed in glutamatergic excitatory neurones and constitutes the major postsynaptic density protein. It is important in the regulation of synaptic transmission, with possible roles in learning and memory.
CaMKII comprises multiple isoforms that are derived from four closely related gene products; alpha, beta, gamma and delta, that have distinct but overlapping expression patterns.
Decreased alpha CaMK II autophosphorylation capability in the hippocampus is associated with Angelman syndrome, which is associated with mental retardation.

Where this product has not been tested for use in a particular technique this does not necessarily exclude its use in such procedures. Suggested working dilutions are given as a guide only. It is recommended that the user titrates the product for use in their own system using appropriate negative/positive controls.
Western Blotting
AHP1273 detects a band of approximately 54kDa in mouse brain cell lysate.
Storage
Store at +4oC or at -20oC if preferred.
Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended.
This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
Shelf Life
18 months from date of despatch.
Antiserum Preparation
Antisera to CaMK II were raised by repeated immunisations of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG prepared from whole serum by affinity chromatography.
