AHP1267 detects human Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), a large secretory protein with a molecular weight of 550kDa that plays a central role in lipoprotein metabolism.
ApoB exists in the plasma in 2 main isoforms, ApoB100 and ApoB48. ApoB100 is synthesised in the liver, and is the major apolipoprotein of very low density, intermediate density and low density lipoproteins (LDL), and is absolutely required for their formation. ApoB100 acts as a ligand for LDL receptors in various cells throughout the body, allowing cells to internalise LDL and absorb cholesterol.
ApoB48 is expressed in the intestine and is present on chylomicrons and their remnants, and lacks the C-terminal LDL-receptor binding region of ApoB100.
Elevated plasma concentrations of ApoB containing lipoproteins are key risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis.

Where this product has not been tested for use in a particular technique this does not necessarily exclude its use in such procedures. Suggested working dilutions are given as a guide only. It is recommended that the user titrates the product for use in their own system using appropriate negative/positive controls.
Western Blotting
AHP1267 detects a band of approximately 550kDa.
Storage
Store at +4oC or at -20oC if preferred.
Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended.
This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
Shelf Life
18 months from date of despatch.
Antiserum Preparation
Antisera to Apolipoprotein B were raised by repeated immunisations of goats with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG prepared by affinity chromatography.
