AHP1172 detects an epitope within the N-terminal (NT) region of Bcl-2-interacting killer (Bik) also known as natural born killer (Nbk). Bik is a Bcl-2 homology domain 3 (BH3)-only protein of 18kD which requires the BAX gene for activation. Bik forms heterodimers with various antiapoptotic proteins such as Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL, inhibiting their antiapoptotic function. This can result in the release of Ca2+ and cytochrome C into the cytosol, leading to apoptosis.
Loss of Bik is a common feature of clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and is thought to act as a renal tissue-specific tumour suppressor gene.

Where this antibody has not been tested for use in a particular technique this does not necessarily exclude its use in such procedures. Suggested working dilutions are given as a guide only. It is recommended that the user titrates the antibody for use in their own system using appropriate negative/positive controls.
Western Blotting
AHP1172 detects a band of approximately 18kDa in Jurkat cell lysates.
Storage
Store at +4oC or at -20oC if preferred.
Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended.
This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
Shelf Life
18 months from date of despatch.
Antiserum Preparation
Antisera to Bik were raised by repeated immunisations of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG prepared by affinity chromatography.
