AAR43 specifically recognises an epitope within the C-terminal (CT) region of endothelin B receptor (ET-B), a widely distributed transmembrane protein and member of the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family, which acts as a non-specific receptor for endothelin 1, 2, and 3, and mediates its action by G protein association and activation of a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.
AAR43 recognizes epitopes on the cytoplasmic side of the receptor and therefore the cell membrane must be permeable to the antibody. AAR43 does not block the binding of endothelins.
AAR43 is reported as suitable for use in immunocytochemistry on acetone fixed cells.
