AAR36 recognises both rat and mouse STRA6 (stimulated by retinoic acid gene 6), an integral transmembrane protein which mediates the cellular uptake of retinoic acid from the retinoic acid-retinol binding protein (RBP) complex, by acting as a high-affinity cell-surface receptor for RBP.
