Apolipoprotein E (apoE) is a 34 kD heparin binding glycoprotein involved in lipid transport and lipoprotein metabolism. It is present in plasma lipoprotein particles such as chylomicrons, VLDL and HDL. ApoE is also present in large amounts at sites of neurological damage and appears to be involved in recycling of apoptotic remnants and of amyloidal aggregates. ApoE is mainly produced in the liver and by macrophages, but also by other cell types such as smooth muscle cells or neuronal cells. ApoE exists in three isoforms, apoE2, apoE3 and apoE4. Of these, apoE4 is associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Normal concentration of apoE in plasma is approximately 30-40 µg/ml.
ELISA kit for quantitative determination of monkey apolipoprotein E in biological fluids such as serum, plasma and cell-culture supernatants.
The kit contains capture mAb, biotinylated detection mAb, Streptavaidin-enzyme conjugate ALP and a recombinant apolipoprotein E standard. The determination of apoE in monkey serum/plasma samples by this kit requires the use of Assay buffer (code: 3652-J2) for dilution of samples, standard and detection antibody.
