Interleukin-12 (IL-12) is, when biologically active, a heterodimer (p70) consisting of two covalently linked subunits, p35 and p40. The p40 subunit is shared with IL-23. IL-12 is produced by antigen-presenting cells, specifically dendritic cells and macrophages. IL-12 is a proinflammatory cytokine that promotes TH1-type responses by inducing IFN-γ production and enhancing proliferation and cytotoxicity of NK and T cells.
Reacts with Human, cross reacts with certain non-human primates. Neutralizing antibodies have only been tested with human cells.
Mouse monoclonal antibody specific for the p40 subunit of human IL-12 and IL-23. The antibody recognizes p40 monomer, p40 homodimer, IL-12 p70 heterodimer (p40+p35) and IL-23 heterodimer (p40+p19). Suitable as detection antibody in ELISA and ELISpot for the detection of IL-12 and IL-23 in combination with mAbs MT86/221 (code 3450-3).
