Description: The monoclonal antibody 5B10 recognizes mouse Caspase-1, a member of the cysteine-requiring aspartate protease family, which plays a critical role in cell suicide known as apoptosis. In particular, it converts pro-IL-1β to mature IL-1β; hence it is also called ICE (interleukin-1β converting enzyme). Upon activation Caspase-1 exists as a tetramer of two p20 and two p10 subunits. There are several isoforms of Caspase-1.
The 5B10 antibody recognizes both the pro-form of about 42kDa and the active p20 form.
