Description: The TK-1 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse Interferon Regulatory Factor-1 (IRF-1). IRF-1 is a transcription factor that is expressed in all cells and has been shown to play many roles in the immune system. IRF-1 activates transcription of IFNγ, and more recently has been shown to induce TNFα expression in response to IFNγ. Recent studies in IRF-1 knockout mice have revealed additional pleiotropic effects of IRF-1. Impairment in IL-12 production by macrophages, impaired CD8+ T cell and NK cell maturation and the absence of Th1 responses with exclusive Th2 differentiation have all been reported in IRF-1 knockout mice. These IRF-1-deficient mice also have increased numbers of immature, tolerogenic dendritic cells and differentiated regulatory T cells.
