0580-0030 recognizes erythroid Ankyrin (ankyrin-1), isoforms 2.1 and 2.2.
Ankyrins are a family of protein believed to link the integral membrane proteins to the underlying spectrin-actin cytoskeleton and therefore aid cell motility, activation, proliferation and function. Most are composed of 3 structural domains; a N-terminal regulatory domain containing multiple ankyrin repeats, a central spectrin binding domain and a C-terminal regulatory domain. Ankyrin-1 is present in erythrocytes and has also been found in brain and muscle. It is suspected that mutations in erythrocytic ankyrin-1 are associated with hereditary spherocytosis.
