FO GSL is a glycosphingolipid differentiation antigen that is present on macrophages in the red pulp of the spleen, and the medulla of inguinal and axial lymph nodes. FO GSL is also present on reticular cells in the T-cell area of the spleen and lymph nodes. A subpopulation of FOM-1 positive macrophages also appear in the peritoneal cavity in response to inflammatory stimuli. Monocytes, granulocytes and other macrophages in lymphoid and non-lymphoid organs are not stained by FOM-1.
This antibody also recognises a marker present on sheep erythrocytes.
