Spectinomycin Dihydrochloride Pentahydrate is a broad spectrum antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis. It is used for treatment of gonorrhea. It is used as a selection agent for transformed plant cells that contain the selectable marker gene Spcr and to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis at the level of peptidy tRNA translocation.
