Sodium nitroprusside dihydrate reagent used for chromatographic detection of peptides containing cystine. Also liberates nitric oxide in biological systems.
Applications
Sodium nitroprusside (SNP) is a nitric oxide donor/releaser and potent vasodilator, which has been reported to reduce lipid peroxidation-induced membrane damage, and is believed to exert its vasodilating activity through the vascular activation of nitric oxide. It has also been reported to be beneficial in maintaining post-thaw sperm viability and motion for up to 6 hours, which has been attributed to the reduction of lipid peroxidative damage to the sperm membrane substances. It is also used for chromatographic detection of peptides containing cystine.
