Description: Adenosine is a nucleotide resulting from the union of one molecule of sugar -- d-ribose -- with a base -- l-adenine. Adenosine is active in cardiovascular disorders. It is indicated in cases of angina pectoris on account of its property of increasing the coronary output and in cases of hypertension on account of its vasodilator action. It is also active on the peripheral circulation, dilating the capillary vessels. It has also been recommended in the treatment of agranulocytosis for the same reason as adenine.
