Rabbit anti Human ACTH polyclonal antibody recognizes human adrenocorticotrophic hormone, also known as corticotrophin. ACTH is a 4.5kDa hormone derived from cleavage of pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC), produced in the pituitary gland in response to corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH) activity and functions to stimulate release of adrenal cortisol.
Rabbit anti Human ACTH polyclonal antibody is directed against the N-terminal portion of adrenocorticotrophic hormone and also recognizes the ACTH cleavage fragment α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH), responsible for melanin pigmentation control in most vertebrate species (Fiordelisioet al.2006). Rabbit anti Human ACTH does not recognize the C-terminal ACTH cleavage product, corticotropin-like intermediary peptide (CLIP).
